Elks Flat Trailhead
Elk Flats is a great choice when you want that dramatic Oregon Coast scenery without committing to a long hike—especially for a quick sunset stop or a romantic photography session
Things to know: Wear hiking shoes as the trail is uneven, rocky and sometimes slippery after the rain. It is not safe for children.
Short Sands (Oswald State Park)
Haystack Rock (Cannon Beach)
Haystack Rock is a classic Oregon Coast location with easy beach access, dramatic scenery, and a beautiful mix of ocean, sand, and coastal greenery.
There is no traditional hiking trail to the rock.
Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site is a peaceful stretch of coastline just south of Cannon Beach, surrounded by sandy shoreline, dramatic rock formations, and lush coastal forest. The beach stretches for more than a mile between two headlands, offering a quieter, more natural atmosphere. A short walk from the parking lot.
Hug Point
Indian Beach (Ecola State Park)
Just a short drive from Ecola State Park! Indian Beach offers rocky ocean views, cliffside rocks, stunning beach and some forest.
Things to know:
It’s an easy walk, not strenuous, right off the parking lot. (Fun fact: Twilight was filmed here)
Chapman Beach
Located at the northern end of Cannon Beach, Chapman Beach is a beautiful, quieter stretch of coastline backed by Chapman Point. It offers a more secluded feel than the main Cannon Beach shoreline.
Arcadia Beach
Ecola State Park
Ecola State Park is perfect for dramatic coastal portraits, romantic elopements, and anyone wanting to experience the wild beauty of the Oregon Coast. One of the most popular spots on the North Oregon Coast, it offers lush greens, evergreen trees and incredible views of the Pacific and haystack rock!
Nestled within Oswald West State Park, Short Sand Beach is a secluded, crescent-shaped cove surrounded by towering coastal forest, rugged cliffs, and the Pacific Ocean.
Things to know:
The beach is accessed by an approximately ½-mile trail each way from the main parking area. The path follows Short Sand Creek through the forest, crossing a bridge before opening up to the beach. It is a relatively easy walk, with mainly paved trails. however it can get muddy/slippery in wet conditions
Known for its dramatic sandstone cliffs, sea caves, waterfalls, and beautiful stretch of sandy beach, Hug Point feels like a hidden coastal escape. It’s especially beautiful at low tide, when the rocky shoreline, caves, and waterfall are easier to explore—making it a gorgeous location for coastal photography and intimate Oregon Coast adventures.
